falling-star-wishes asked: How do you think Olga will dance La Sylphide or Giselle? Are they the right parts for her? Will she be outstanding in them? Which roles would she shine best in?
Well, I personally have found her to be quite exceptional in every role she has danced so far.
Since I have been watching, or ‘following’ her, I have always found her to be more of a lyrical ballerina by nature, with her long limbs, pliant spine, expressive port de bras, effortless extensions and so on. Before she danced Swan Lake I anticipated a very strong Odette and not as strong an Odile from her; but her Odile was and is great, and she is one of the fastest ballerinas around today (when I say this I’m referring to the speed of her turns) which I find exciting, and she has great aplomb in every role she’s danced. She also has a very light, airy, natural jump, which one critic has described as ‘apparently preparation-free’, and she just floats into the air. What I’ve noticed is when she does a grand jete, instead of just focusing on splitting the legs, she really jumps. She’s really unique in many ways.
I don’t know why you’re asking me this, since I have no idea if she will be outstanding in La Sylphide or Giselle. I do know a lot about her as a dancer but I don’t know everything, and I do not have the privilege of seeing her every day or even LIVE in performance so I cannot accurately predict how she will dance a certain role. Anyways, I would like to think she will be excellent in these roles. She has said in an interview that she wants to gain more experience before dancing roles such as Juliet or Giselle (two roles that she really wants to dance).
She has danced Myrtha (no video footage) and one of two soloist wilis in Giselle already. I’d like to think she was a great Myrtha but there is no video footage online. She was a fantastic wili, her solo was probably the highlight of the whole night seeing as the Giselle and Albrecht of that night were not great. She is so fluid, I think her Giselle will be fantastic, especially since she is smart and will perform it when she feels ready.
Roles that suit her best, in my opinion, are Tatiana in Onegin, Nikiya and Odette. Also the lead in ‘Diamonds’ but this isn’t really a great character role. I still feel she is a more natural Odette than Odile but her Odile is really great and surprised me a lot, I can only imagine what it is like to watch her dance Swan Lake in person (ugh people of New York who just saw her, I’m so sososososO JEALOUS).
(Sorry for writing so much but I have a lot to say when it comes to Olga. You asked for it! ;)
She’s proved to be a great dramatic actress in Onegin and Lady of the Camellias, ballets where you sometimes can’t rely on movement to relay your feelings and you must be 100% engaged in the role, with your partners and the audience to portray your feelings. She was excellent in both and is performing parts from these ballets around the world. So I predict a great Juliet from her, and also a great Giselle. La Sylphide is not such a staple of the Russian ballet repertoire but she might dance it, who knows. In closing she always brings something unexpected and very, very special to her dancing and her portrayals of the roles she dances. I’m so excited for the day I see her in person in a full length ballet.
